In 1923 Chandler Egan, one of the nation's greatest tournament golfers, was engaged to lay out a new 18 hole golf course. Over the years this course with its natural setting among tall firs and other scenic views, developed a reputation as one of the finest golf courses on the Pacific Coast. Golfing on the Robert Trent Jones newly redesigned course has been made more challenging and enjoyable by the addition of a new lake and waterways. Since the renovation's completion in 1967, the combination of Jones' delicate greens, free form bunkers and runway tees superimposed on Chandler Egan's sublime routing (which was so good it even worked in reverse) has consistently made Eugene Country Club one of the finer layouts in America.
Peter Jacobsen, one of the best golfers to ever play at the University of Oregon in Eugene, was strongly influenced by the test he found at Eugene Country Club. "I became a better player because of Eugene Country Club," says the six time PGA Tour winner. "I've only played a handful of courses that are in Eugene's class. It is one of those treasures that doesn't come along often. It's beautiful and treacherous and a joy to play."
