Harding's restoration has been a continuing focus of golf industry attention, and the improvements were completed on the basis of returning a PGA Tour event to its storied grounds. Harding Park recently played host to the 2005 World Golf Championships-American Express Championship. The American Express event, contested during the dates of October 6 - 9, 2005, featured Tiger Woods defeating John Daly on the second playoff hole to capture the Championship title. For Woods, it marks his sixth TOUR victory of 2005. Proceeds from the event benefited the First Tee Chapter of San Francisco, a non-profit organization that provides inner-city youth the opportunity to learn the game of golf and life skills through its educational program.
Harding Park Golf Course is located less than one mile from the Pacific Ocean, near scenic Skyline Boulevard and the renowned San Francisco Zoo. Originally designed by Willie Watson in 1925, the majestic, tree-lined layout has played host to prestigious golf events including The Lucky International Professional Golf Championship from 1961-66 and 1968, and the annual San Francisco City Golf Championships, celebrating its 89th consecutive year in 2005. Harding Park's newly constructed clubhouse opened to the public in July 2005. The Clubhouse has a full service golf shop, restaurant, banquet facilities, and is available for weddings and special events.
