The Plantation Course, which was previously the Plantation/Retreat combination, was renovated by Rees Jones in 1998. The Plantation Course is a parkland design with mulched beds of ancient oaks lining the fairways. The mixture of this parkland design, combined with the windswept beauty of seaside vistas, makes this a breathtaking links course. This is a strong test of golf for players of all abilities. "GOLF Magazine" selected the Plantation Course 87th in the 1998 category of "The Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." The Seaside Course, which opened in the fall of 1999, utilizes the original design by Colt and Alison as a seaside-style course with holes separated and framed by native dunes. Tom Fazio was retained as the architect for the remodeling of this course. The pushed up greens are surrounded by chipping swales, large bunkers with steep faces, and rectangular tee boxes. The course has been designed to play fast and firm, much like the playing conditions of famous Scottish courses. The Retreat course opened for play August 2001. Formerly known as The St. Simons Island Club, the Retreat was redesigned by Davis Love III. Caddies are required if you choose to walk the course.
