Course Description:
Designed some 100 years ago by Stanford White, Shinnecock Hills may well have the most famous and beloved clubhouse in America. The oldest golf club in the US, Saint Andrew's called on Butler Rogers Baskett to restore and expand its historic clubhouse. Sensitive renovations were needed to bring the aging building to contemporary standards, while expansion was called for to meet requirements for growing club activities.

Shinnecock Hills is one of the five clubs that founded the USGA and also the first club to allow women in its membership. The club has the first and oldest clubhouse in the U.S., which opened in 1892 and was designed by Stanford White. This narrow, links-style design was built on undulating terrain and will test all aspects of your game. There is one water hazard that rarely comes into play, but sand bunkers seem to be placed in all the right spots throughout the design. There are various shaped greens full of subtle breaks and severe undulations. All the fairways are defined by multiple cuts of rough, and if you find yourself in the long native grasses, you'll probably not make par on the hole. All fees are considered private information and are not available for publication. This club has been listed by the USGA as being one of the first 100 clubs established in the U.S. It was recognized by "GOLF MAGAZINE" in its 1995 list of "The First 100 Clubs in America." The U.S. Open was played here in 1896, which was won by James Foulis, and again in 1986 with the winner that year being Ray Floyd. The U.S. Open returned here for its centennial tournament in 1995 with Corey Pavin winning his first major tournament. In 2004, Shinnecock with host the U.S. Open once again. The course was redesigned in 1931 by William Flynn. "GOLF MAGAZINE" has consistently placed Shinnecock in the top 10 of its "Top 100 Courses in the U.S. and World."
